Communities of oribatid mites (Acari: Oribatida) of naturally regenerating and salvage logged mountain spruce forests of Šumava Mts
GALICOVÁ, Petra
The main aim of this study was to describe and compare communities of oribatid mites of selected areas in mountain spruce forests near Březník in the Šumava National Park, where different types of management were used after the spruce dieback caused by bark beetle gradation more than 15 years ago. Naturally regenerating and salvage logged areas were compared. Significant differences were found in the oribatid mite community composition between the areas with different types of used management. The oribatid mite community in naturally regenerating areas was in better shape and its abundance and species composition was similar to the community of a control area in a fully grown healthy spruce forest.
Effects of management and natural disturbance on oribatid mites in montane forest
FARSKÁ, Jitka
The thesis studied effects of forest management and natural disturbance on oribatid mites in montane forests in South Bohemia (Czech Republic). We focused on the influence of (1) spruce monoculture establishment on the former beech forest, (2) management intensification in spruce forest and (3) forest dieback after bark-beetle outbreak. The impacts were pronounced especially like changes in species composition and distribution of functional traits.
Příjem potravy a metabolická aktivita .i.Galumna elimata./i. (C.L. Koch, 1841) (Acari: Oribatida) při různých teplotách
Šustr, Vladimír ; Hubert, J. ; Pekár, S.
The ability of the physiological compensation of respiration rate and feeding activity for temperature was tested in oribatid mite .i.Galumna elimata./i. to evaluate significance of the increase of amylolytic activity in the whole body homogenates of mite exposed to cold acclimation. Mites were reared on green bark algae (.i.Protococcus viridis./i.) at different constant temperatures (5-30°C) for 21 days. The temperature relationships of respiration rate, presence of animals on food and defecation were compared before acclimation (quick response to temperature change) and after acclimation to constant temperature (effects of adaptation). The relationship of oxygen consumption on temperature was similar in control and acclimated mites. Presence of animals on food increased exponentially with temperature before acclimation. It was higher at 15°C after acclimation at constant temperature.
Přitažlivost listového opadu pro pancířníky – experiment s opadovými sáčky
Farská, Jitka
Oribatid mites in litterbags and in soil samples were studied during one year. The litterbags with oak or beech litter were exposed in beech and spruce forest on the Kleť Mt. (Blanský les Protected Landscape Area, Czech Republic). Four habitat-litter combinations were investigated - oak litter in beech forest, oak litter in spruce forest, beech litter in beech forest and beech litter in spruce forest. Soil samples were taken from oak, beech and spruce forests. Species diversity of oribatid mites increased with litter decomposition in the litterbags. Communities of oribatid mites in the litterbags exposed in spruce forest had higher species richness (59 species) than those exposed in beech forest (33 species). Species composition was dependent on the forest type where the litterbags were exposed. The influence of the litter type on the oribatid community was lower. Communities in the litterbags and in the soil samples were compared.
Vliv různých travních směsí na společenstva pancířníků (Acari: Oribatida) v iniciálních sukcesních stádiích během obnovy květnatých luk
Starý, Josef
Altogether 400 quantitative soil samples were taken from 8 stationary plots in the localities Výzkum and Čertoryje in the Bílé Karpaty Mts. during the years 1999-2002. The present study is based on material of 10563 oribatid specimens belonging to 62 oribatid species. The lowest species richness and mean abundance were recorded on the plot with agricultural management. The highest mean abundance was found on the old sub-xerothermic meadow in Čertoryje. The eurytopic species .i.Scheloribates laevigatus./i. and .i.Tectocepheus velatus./i. as well as the heliophilous .i.Punctoribates punctum./i. were eudominant in all studied plots. These eudominant species were complemented by the dominant and recedent eurytopic species .i.Microppia minus, Hemileius initialis, Achipteria coleoptrata./i. and .i.Medioppia subpectimata./i.. The rare xerophilous species .i.Lucoppia burrowsi./i. was found in the plots sowed by different grass mixtures and in the fallow.
Changes of oribatid mite communities (Acari: Oribatida) during primary succession on colliery spoil heaps near Sokolov, North-West Bohemia, Czech Republic
Starý, Josef
In this study oribatid communities of colliery spoil heaps on five successive stages of different age (4-40 years) were investigated. In the course of the study 9034 individuals of oribatid mites, representing 38 species, were collected. Species richness and especially average abundance increased during primary succession. Significantly higher abundance and species diversity were found in the bottom of depressions between dumped heaps in comparison with their top excluding the youngest successive stage. Eurytopic and parthenogenetic species Tectocepheus velatus and Oppiella nova were eudominant in all studied successive stages. The highest species dissimilarity and heterogeneity were found on the youngest stage but species composition becomes more complex and stable in the course of primary succession.
